I am so proud of our church!
I was recently given the honor of attending the Jackson County High School graduation service and presenting two of our members with scholarships. We are not the largest church in the county, but I believe we were the only church presenting scholarships. And unless I missed something, no local organization present that evening handed out more money than we did.
I believe that is something to be proud of. I celebrate the faithfulness of the members of this church to provide opportunities for a bright future for the children in this community. So that you may celebrate with me, below is the announcement that was read during the graduation service. Next time you see these students, congratulate them.
Gainesboro 1st United Methodist Church is proud to administer the United Methodist Doyene Anderson Scholarship Fund. These scholarships are given to students who meet the rigorous requirements. They are not only for the purpose of giving financial aid for student’s collegiate endeavors, but we also hope that they will serve to remind the student throughout the time of their education that their church and community support them.
Our first student, in addition to other requirements, completed a rigorous and comprehensive six-part Christian apologetics program that also included three oral exams. In response to their efforts, and for their future education, we are proud to award a $1000 scholarship to Joshua David Milton.
Our second scholarship goes to a high school senior that has excelled in the area of community service. In the past few years, they have served at numerous community events, performed hurricane relief duties in Panama City, completed numerous church projects, and worked hard to meet the audio video needs of our congregation. We are proud to award a $1000 scholarship to Elizabeth Sherrill.
CONGRATULATIONS!!
